The next Yutong electric buses will serve free public transport in Giżycko
In 2023, the residents of Giżycko municipality and city were introduced to a new initiative: complimentary public transportation powered by three electric Yutong buses. The local government is committed to advancing the local transportation system and has plans to enlarge its electric bus fleet to five vehicles. The agreement for the delivery of these additional buses was formalized through the signing of a contract between Marek Jasudowicz, the head of the Giżycko commune, and Emil Dmochowski, the sales director of Busnex Poland.
“The Giżycko commune’s decision to acquire more Yutong electric buses serves as a strong endorsement for this brand. Looking back, we can observe the success of combining free transportation with a fleet of quiet, comfortable, and emission-free buses. With this contract in place, we have already secured the supply of one hundred Yutong electric buses in Poland,” stated Marcin Kucharski, President of the Management Board of Busnex Poland.
The initiative for free transportation was introduced in early March 2023 through collaborative efforts between the Giżycko commune and city. Three Yutong E9 electric buses, supplied by Busnex Poland along with the necessary charging infrastructure as part of a tender from 2022, are currently in operation. This year’s proceedings led to the selection of Busnex Poland for the purchase of two additional E9 models and a charging station. The contract outlines the delivery of these electric buses later this year.
“Our experience so far has revealed that the driving comfort of these new, well-equipped electric buses surpasses that of the previously used vehicles. The ecological aspect is equally important, with the zero-emission nature of the buses. This is why I’ve decided to apply for an additional subsidy to procure two more electric buses,” remarked Marek Jasudowicz, the head of the Giżycko commune.
The chosen Yutong E9 model by the Giżycko municipality is an almost 9-meter-long electric bus capable of covering over 350 kilometers on a single charge. Its design incorporates a low floor to accommodate individuals with disabilities or reduced mobility, along with features like automatic air conditioning, monitoring, and a GPS system to enhance passenger comfort and service efficiency. The advancement of public transportation by the Giżycko commune is facilitated by co-financing from the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship’s Regional Operational Program, amounting to nearly PLN 4.2 million.
“We wholeheartedly welcome investments that improve transportation, particularly those that have a positive environmental impact,” affirmed Gustaw Marek Brzezin, the Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. He further noted, “It’s encouraging to witness local governments embracing such solutions. Giżycko now joins the ranks of cities prioritizing eco-friendly mobility. Equally significant is the modern fleet’s accessibility for individuals with disabilities.”
