Tesla Recalls Nearly 240,000 Vehicles
Tesla Recalls Over 239,000 Electric Vehicles in 2024. Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, has announced a voluntary recall of over 239,000 of its electric vehicles. The recall affects models produced between 2024 and 2025, including the Model 3, as well as Models S, X, and Y from 2023 to 2025.
Reason for Recall
The recall is due to a software issue that could cause rearview camera malfunctions and potential short circuits in some vehicles’ computers, increasing the risk of accidents.
Causes and Scope of the Issue
Tesla initiated the recall after identifying the problem on November 21, 2024, when an increase in computer replacements caused by short circuits was observed. The company’s engineers conducted an investigation from November 26 to December 20, determining the issues could be linked to:
- Low battery voltage,
- Software defects in the affected vehicles,
- Lower external temperatures, which caused an increase in secondary current voltage (inductive voltage phenomena).
These factors led to short circuits in certain components, impacting vehicle safety.
To date, Tesla has received 887 warranty claims and 68 reports related to this issue. However, the company emphasizes that no collisions, injuries, or fatalities have been reported due to these defects.
Software Update
On December 18, Tesla rolled out a software update via over-the-air delivery to all recalled vehicles. This update is designed to resolve the short circuit and rearview camera issues without requiring a visit to service centers. Vehicle owners incur no additional costs related to this recall.
Tesla continues to monitor the situation to ensure the measures effectively mitigate the risks. The company urges owners of the affected vehicles to verify that their cars have received the software update.
