Italy is betting on agro photovoltaics. A farm with a capacity of 170 MW is being built
Within a short span of 13 months, Italy’s largest agro photovoltaic farm will be unveiled in Tarquinia. Enel Green Power, the company responsible for this project, has recently initiated the assembly phase.
The setup will feature dual-sided photovoltaic modules positioned on trackers, with olive trees cultivated in the spaces between them. Approximately 330 individuals will be engaged in constructing the agro photovoltaic farm located to the north of Rome.
Last year, the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy initiated a program worth €1.5 billion to promote the growth of agro photovoltaics across the Apennine Peninsula.
The 170 MW farm seamlessly extends Enel Green Power’s commitment to agro photovoltaics. The company’s interest in this field was already evident when, in 2021, it initiated a research project encompassing nine pilot ventures across Spain, Greece, and Italy.
