A hundred kilometers from the front, a wind farm was built in Ukraine
Ukraine’s largest private energy company, DTEK, has successfully inaugurated the Tyligulska wind farm, boasting a substantial capacity of 114 MW. Impressively, this investment was executed in close proximity, only 100 kilometers away, from the front line where Ukrainian forces are bravely standing against Russian aggression.
Indeed, the Tyligulska wind farm’s first phase signifies a significant milestone in Ukraine’s renewable energy endeavors. Comprising 19 turbines each boasting a 6 MW capacity, this initial stage serves as a precursor to a grander scheme. The forthcoming second phase will incorporate an additional 64 turbines, culminating in a total capacity of 500 MW. This comprehensive endeavor will establish the largest onshore wind farm in Eastern Europe.
By harnessing the capabilities of Enventus turbines, manufactured by the Danish company Vestas, DTEK demonstrates its commitment to innovative and sustainable energy solutions. Aiming for a net-zero emissions status by 2040, DTEK is resolutely dedicated to transforming Ukraine into a clean energy exporter to the European Union. The substantial foreign investment of USD 450 million from both private entities and state institutions further underscores the significance of this initiative.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly emphasized the strategic importance of renewable energy sources for bolstering Ukraine’s energy security, particularly during times of conflict. The integration of renewable energy with energy storage technologies provides a robust protective measure under such circumstances.
