The largest BESS energy storage facility in Europe was launched
The British firm Harmony Energy Income Trust (HEIT) has introduced the Bumpers Battery Energy Storage System. This distinctive project, with a capacity of 198 MWh, now stands as the biggest energy storage facility in Europe.
The largest energy storage facility – the growing potential of Great Britain
The Bumpers Battery Energy Storage System, a 99MW project, can supply energy for approximately 450,000 British households for two hours. Yet, Harmony Energy Income Trust (HEIT) isn’t stopping there.
In Scotland, the Little Raith BESS, with a capacity of 49.5 MW/99 MWh, has become operational, further solidifying the UK’s status as a renewable energy storage pioneer. Both of these ventures employ Tesla’s Megapack 2XL system and are managed using the Autobidder platform, which HEIT had previously tested in other projects.
With the successful launch of the Bumpers energy storage, HEIT now possesses two of the three most substantial operational Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Europe. Until now, the Pillswood project (98 MW/196 MWh), launched near Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire in November 2022, held the title for the largest storage facility in terms of capacity.
Harmony Energy independence
It’s important to highlight that Harmony Energy’s energy storage projects were achieved without relying on public funding. This underscores their dedication to advancing sustainable energy sources and storage. The company also intends to further expand in this sector over the next six months.
The Bumpers Battery Energy Storage System, the largest facility of its kind, and the Little Raith BESS both serve as powerful indicators of the UK’s achievements in renewable energy storage. Such progress is vital in the global endeavor to shift towards more sustainable energy sources.
