“An energy giant near Toruń. Construction of the Jedwabno storage facility has begun

Construction has begun in Jedwabno near Toruń on an energy storage facility with a capacity of 150 MW and 300 MWh. The project, developed by R.Power, is currently the largest installation of its kind under construction in Poland. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned at the end of 2026 and may play an important role in stabilizing the National Power System and optimizing the distribution of green energy.

Importance of the investment for the power system

The Jedwabno project, aside from its scale, fits into the broader development of infrastructure supporting the Polish electricity system. The BESS installation will enable the storage of surplus renewable energy and its release during peak demand periods. As Jakub Kępka noted in an interview, “This is a unique undertaking because it combines scale, innovation, and speed — elements that require the highest level of organization and team experience.”

Key parameters and project status:

  • Power and capacity – 150 MW / 300 MWh
  • Progress – the first battery containers have already arrived on site. EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) is being carried out by Nomad Electric, a company within the R.Power Group
  • Commercial security – the project has a 17‑year capacity market contract secured in the capacity market auction, as well as an optimization agreement with the Swiss company Axpo
  • Commissioning date – grid synchronization is expected at the end of 2026

Although the Jedwabno installation is one of the largest battery projects under construction in Poland, it remains moderate by international standards. For comparison, the Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility in California will ultimately exceed 750 MW of power and several thousand MWh of capacity, while the Victorian Big Battery in Australia offers around 300 MW of power and more than 450 MWh of capacity.

R.Power’s expansion

The Jedwabno project is part of the broader strategy of the Warsaw‑based developer, which is evolving from a photovoltaic market leader into a major player in the energy storage sector. The company currently manages a project portfolio exceeding 10 GW across six European markets.

In 2025 alone and the first quarter of 2026, R.Power connected 63 new installations to the grid, surpassing the threshold of 1 GW of installed capacity. The company is actively developing additional large‑scale storage facilities, including projects in Gdańsk (250 MW), Dzięgielewo, and Czekanów (300 MW each), which are expected to support the system after 2030. At the same time, it is achieving success in Germany, securing more than 10% of the volume in auctions for hybrid projects.

“After the PV expansion, energy storage is the real game changer that will transform the functioning of the European power system,” emphasizes Paweł Czaus, CEO of Nomad Electric Group.
