During last week’s meeting between the Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig‑Kloska, and the President of Westinghouse Electric Company, Patrick Fragman, key issues related to the construction of Poland’s first nuclear power plant were discussed.

The Minister expressed the government’s full commitment to the energy transition, emphasizing that nuclear energy is a crucial element of this process and will be an important component of the country’s future energy mix. Timely implementation of the project is a priority.

Involvement of domestic capital

The discussion also covered matters related to building competencies and human resources in the field of nuclear energy in Poland, as well as the involvement of domestic industry in the implementation of the project. The government expects broad participation from Polish companies, seeing it as an opportunity to develop a new industrial sector and create new jobs.

The nuclear power plant project is viewed as an opportunity for the development and expansion of Polish industry — both through participation in the national project and through entry into global supply chains for the nuclear sector. The first power plant, consisting of three AP1000 reactors, will be built by a consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel in the Lubiatowo‑Kopalino location in Pomerania, in accordance with the “Polish Nuclear Power Programme.”
