Saudi Energy Company ACWA Power Strengthens Ties with Europe on Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen

Saudi energy firm ACWA Power is deepening its collaboration with European partners by signing a series of strategic agreements focused on exporting renewable energy and green hydrogen from Saudi Arabia to Europe. This marks another step toward building intercontinental energy bridges and advancing global decarbonization goals.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Energy, ACWA Power has signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with leading European energy companies – France’s TotalEnergies, Italy’s Edison, and Germany’s EnBW. The collaboration covers not only the export of clean energy but also the development of the green hydrogen value chain—a fuel expected to play a critical role in industrial and transportation transformation in the coming decades.

Additionally, ACWA Power signed separate agreements with Siemens Energy to jointly develop energy transmission corridors between the Arabian Peninsula and Europe. The goal is to build infrastructure that enables efficient and secure long-distance transfer of renewable energy.

Green Hydrogen – A Global Energy Currency?

Thanks to its vast solar and wind resources, Saudi Arabia has the potential to become one of the world’s leading exporters of green hydrogen. ACWA Power already operates numerous renewable energy projects across the MENA region and is now, through these new partnerships, expanding into the European market.

European consumers are seeking stable and diversified energy sources to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve energy security. Cooperation with the Saudi energy giant could play a significant role in this context—especially as the EU’s climate policy becomes increasingly stringent.

The agreements signed by ACWA Power with companies from France, Italy, and Germany reflect a broader trend of international energy system integration.
