Polska Spółka Gazownictwa (PSG) achieved a significant milestone by receiving the Technical Assessment Certificate for its gas network, allowing transmission of natural gas blended with hydrogen up to 20%. This approval applies to the newly constructed PE gas pipeline dn 400, operating at medium pressure MOP 0.5 MPa, stretching from Jelenia Góra to Piechowice.

The project is pioneering due to the absence of existing standards and regulations at both national and EU levels. The Oil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute in Kraków, with which PSG collaborated starting July 2023, accredited this innovative initiative. Dr. Jacek Jaworski, Director of the Oil and Gas Institute, highlighted the development of evaluation criteria specific to the project, covering product requirements and construction technology. Specialized research, analyses, and quality assessments followed to ensure compliance with these criteria.

Dr. Jaworski emphasized that this investment marks a significant stride towards energy transformation in the economy. PSG’s President, Robert Więckowski, underscored the importance of this achievement, noting it positions PSG to fulfill the goals of the Polish Hydrogen Strategy and emerge as a key player in delivering clean hydrogen for heating purposes. The construction of the 7 km Lower Silesian pipeline section cost over PLN 11 million and was executed by “GAZ” Sp. z o. o., headquartered in Błonie.
