This mission is crucial for assessing Poland’s readiness to carry out the next phase of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme (PEJ).

Undersecretary Motyka emphasized that the INIR mission is an important tool for understanding the stage of preparedness of national institutions involved in the nuclear energy programme. In addition, the INIR mission makes it possible to identify conditions, needs, and areas requiring improvement.

The Director of the IAEA Nuclear Energy Department, Aline Des Cloizeaux, expressed appreciation for Poland’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix and enhancing energy security through the use of nuclear power. During the INIR 2 mission, Agency experts will assess Poland’s progress in implementing the PEJ Programme.

Mission principles

The INIR 2 mission represents an important opportunity for Poland to obtain an objective assessment of its progress in pursuing its nuclear energy ambitions. The IAEA has declared full commitment to supporting Poland in these efforts.

The IAEA’s Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review is a fundamental tool that enables Member States to evaluate the status of their nuclear infrastructure. The mission is based on a milestone‑based approach and an assessment of 19 infrastructure issues.

The report on the state of nuclear infrastructure will be evaluated during the two‑week INIR 2 mission. The event is attended by representatives of key institutions involved in the PEJ Programme. The mission will continue until 25 April 2024.
