SolarEdge presents a commercial energy storage system at Intersolar 2023
SolarEdge Technologies, a prominent player in smart energy technologies worldwide, has introduced its commercial energy storage system (CSS) during the Intersolar Europe event. This innovative system is projected to become commercially accessible in the latter half of 2024.
SolarEdge Technologies has developed a commercial energy storage system (CSS) tailored for small to medium-sized commercial photovoltaic (PV) installations. The DC-coupled CSS boasts high efficiency and is designed for indoor use. With a battery capacity of 58 kWh, it can accommodate up to eight batteries per inverter, offering a total storage capacity of up to 460 kWh. This setup allows for synchronized solar battery operation and energy management at the facility level.
The DC-coupled battery architecture eliminates the inefficiencies associated with multiple AC-DC power conversions found in AC-coupled alternatives. This results in superior round-trip efficiency, better oversizing potential for PV systems, and improved overall performance. The CSS is designed to seamlessly integrate with SolarEdge’s energy management ecosystem. This integration empowers system owners to optimize their energy usage during peak hours, increase self-consumption of solar energy, benefit from Time-of-Use rates, tap into grid services, and support electric vehicle charging.
The CSS features a lightweight, compact, and modular design for easy transportation and installation. It’s designed to be manageable by a two-person team and offers scalability for small and medium-sized businesses to increase their storage capacity as needed.
Safety is a priority with the CSS, as it incorporates multiple layers of embedded SolarEdge safety features, including arc fault detection. Additionally, the system is anticipated to receive UL 9540A certification for indoor use.
