Swiss Battery Systems Manufacturer LION E-Mobility AG Announces Strategic Partnership with Münchner Solarkraftwerke to Deliver Over 40 Large-Scale Energy Storage Projects in Germany by 2028

Strategic Cooperation in the German Market

Swiss battery systems manufacturer LION E-Mobility AG, through its subsidiary LION Smart Production, has announced a strategic partnership with Münchner Solarkraftwerke. The collaboration aims to implement more than 40 large-scale battery energy storage projects in Germany by 2028.

LION E-Mobility AG and Münchner Solarkraftwerke plan to deploy battery energy storage systems ranging from 5 MW up to more than 150 MW. These projects will be developed both as stand-alone installations and as hybrid solutions combined with solar farms.

According to the plans, all investments are scheduled to be connected to the grid between 2026 and 2028. Each storage unit will be based on proprietary LION Smart Production solutions — lithium-ion batteries equipped with inverters and PCS systems, enabling the buffering of renewable energy as well as the provision of grid-balancing services for network operators.

“The combination of our battery technology with Münchner Solarkraftwerke’s project development expertise creates a scalable business model with tremendous growth potential,” emphasized Joachim Damasky, CEO of LION E-Mobility AG. Thanks to this partnership, LION gains direct access to the rapidly expanding German energy storage market.

Strong Financial Results in the First Half of 2025

The partnership with Münchner Solarkraftwerke marks another step in the company’s dynamic growth. LION E-Mobility AG maintains a strong financial position, as confirmed by results for the first half of 2025:

  • Revenue: €10.4 million (+71% YoY vs. €6.1 million in H1 2024)
  • EBITDA: €1.3 million (improvement from -€4.8 million a year earlier)
  • EBITDA margin: 12.1% — a clear increase in profitability
  • Operating cash flow: €3.3 million (up from -€5.8 million)

Sales growth was driven by rising demand for battery systems and consistent cost reduction and logistics optimization measures.

CEO Joachim Damasky noted:

“In a challenging market environment, demand for our battery solutions continues to grow. I am pleased that we not only increased revenue but also significantly improved profitability.”

New Partnerships and Development Directions

In addition to the cooperation with Münchner Solarkraftwerke, LION secured further strategic alliances and new orders in the first half of 2025:

  • Project with a European premium truck manufacturer – development of a liquid-cooled battery system capable of ultra-fast charging at 3 MW, offering a range of 450 km.
  • NMC+ platform – launch of test deliveries, with full-scale production planned for Q1 2026.
  • Partnership with LeapEnergy – distribution and servicing of storage systems in Europe and Canada.
  • Cooperation with hofer powertrain – accelerating commercialization of immersion cooling technology through joint R&D expertise.

Founded in 2011 and listed on the Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg stock exchanges, LION E-Mobility AG is a Swiss manufacturer of advanced lithium-ion battery systems. Its annual production capacity is estimated at 2 GWh.
