Five new offshore wind farms of the Orlen Group will be built
The ORLEN Group has obtained a favorable assessment from the Minister of Infrastructure for five fresh sites designated for offshore wind farms. This marks a pivotal step in the realization of ambitious marine energy initiatives. These upcoming investments are expected to yield a combined capacity of 5.2 GW, sufficient to provide energy for around 8 million households.
The endeavors of the ORLEN Group are a direct outcome of the knowledge and expertise garnered through the Baltic Power project, currently one of the most advanced offshore wind energy initiatives in the country. The addition of five more wind farms forms a crucial component of the ORLEN Group’s strategy, designed to boost the installed capacity of renewable energy sources to 9 GW by the end of the decade. The execution of these projects will enhance Poland’s energy security.
Locations of new wind farms of the Orlen Group
The ORLEN Group has designated four of its five new wind farms to be situated on the Oder Bank near Kołobrzeg, with the fifth located on the Słupsk Bank, adjacent to the construction site of the Baltic Power wind farm. The latter, developed in collaboration with Canadian partner Northland Power, boasts a capacity of 1.2 GW and is scheduled for launch in 2026.
The acquisition of the necessary license now paves the way for the ORLEN Group to initiate the preparatory phase for designing these new wind farms. This phase will encompass essential research activities, including assessments of wind conditions, geotechnical analyses, and environmental assessments, all vital components in the subsequent design and administrative processes.
Installation terminal
Offshore wind energy occupies a central role in the strategic development of the ORLEN Group. In addition to the Baltic Power project, the company is actively constructing the inaugural offshore wind farm installation terminal in Poland, located within the port of Świnoujście. Upon completion of the investment in 2025, it will stand as one of the most state-of-the-art terminals in Europe, specially equipped for the transportation and installation of contemporary wind turbines with a capacity of 15 MW and larger.
The initial project slated for execution at this terminal is the Baltic Power wind farm, with the facility designed to subsequently support other developers and future projects undertaken by the ORLEN Group within the Baltic Sea.
