Energa has secured additional funding from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). More than PLN 300 million will be allocated to the development of an intelligent power grid.
Energa Group has secured additional funding from the National Recovery Plan (KPO). This time, Energa Operator will receive more than PLN 300 million, which will be allocated to the digitalization of the power grid, the development of intelligent management systems and the strengthening of cybersecurity. It is part of a multi‑billion‑zloty infrastructure modernization program designed to prepare Poland’s energy sector for the challenges of the transition.
Over PLN 300 million for digital transformation
Energa Operator has signed an agreement with Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego for financing under the “Digitalization Loan” instrument, implemented with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The more than PLN 300 million obtained will be used to refinance investments carried out until 2035. The financing may cover up to 100% of eligible project costs, and funds will be released as work progresses.
Intelligent grid to improve supply security
The new funds will accelerate the modernization of the power infrastructure. Investments will include the development of smart meters, smart‑grid systems and modern tools for grid management.
This will allow the operator to detect failures more quickly, manage energy flows more effectively, reduce technical losses and connect new renewable‑energy sources more efficiently.
A significant portion of the funds will also be allocated to the development of IT and telecommunications infrastructure and cybersecurity systems, which are becoming one of the key elements of modern power‑grid operation.
Energa: digitalization is essential for the energy transition
As Energa SA CEO Magdalena Kamińska emphasizes, the acquired funds fit into the largest investment program in the history of the Energa Group.
– Modern grids of the future are not only about expanding infrastructure, but above all about advanced digital solutions that increase the resilience of the energy system. Cybersecurity is also gaining importance, which is why we are developing security systems as well as IT and telecommunications infrastructure, she notes.
The grid already uses millions of smart meters
Energa Operator CEO Robert Świerzyński highlights that the company has been developing digital solutions supporting grid management for years.
The operator already uses the SCADA/ADMS system, which enables real‑time monitoring and control of the distribution grid. At the same time, central systems receive data from more than 3 million remote‑reading meters, allowing faster response to failures and more efficient management of the entire system.
The new financing is expected to accelerate the deployment of additional technologies that will improve supply reliability and support the rapidly growing number of renewable‑energy sources.
KPO as one of Energa’s investment pillars
Preferential financing from the KPO is also important for the company’s financial stability. It allows diversification of capital sources, reduces the impact of high market financing costs and ensures greater predictability in implementing long‑term investments.
Energa Operator’s development program for 2025–2035 is worth more than PLN 40 billion. So far, the company has obtained around PLN 9.4 billion from the National Recovery Plan to support the construction of a modern, intelligent and resilient power grid.
