200 MW of renewable energy for Amazon – new agreements with R.Power and OX2
Amazon has announced agreements to purchase nearly 200 MW of renewable energy from two solar farms and one wind farm located in the Opole, West Pomeranian, and Lublin regions of Poland. The projects are developed in partnership with R.Power and OX2. With these deals, Amazon has doubled its renewable energy capacity in Poland, strengthening its position as one of the country’s largest private consumers of green energy.
“We are continuously working toward our goal of achieving net-zero carbon across our operations by 2040, and clean energy is key to reducing emissions,” said Sławomir Płonka, Regional Director of Amazon Operations in Central and Eastern Europe.
Three new renewable energy projects in Poland
The new investments include:
- Two solar farms in Lasocice (Opole) and Recław (West Pomeranian) with a combined capacity of 164 MW, developed by R.Power. This represents one of the largest solar energy deals in Poland.
- A 28 MW onshore wind farm in Annopol (Lublin), developed by OX2. Construction began in August 2025, with completion scheduled for 2027.
Once operational, these projects will feed new green energy into the national grid, supporting the decarbonization of Poland’s energy mix and bringing benefits to businesses and consumers alike.
Supporting Poland’s energy transition
In total, Amazon is now involved in seven renewable energy projects in Poland with a combined capacity of 333 MW — enough energy to power over 230,000 households annually.
These efforts align with national and European climate goals. According to the European Electricity Review 2024 by Ember, 57% of electricity in Poland in 2024 came from fossil fuels. Meanwhile, the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) aims for 32.1% of final gross energy consumption to come from renewables by 2030.
“Developing renewable energy is not just about technology, but also about responsibility for the future of local communities. We are proud to support these changes in Poland and contribute to building a green economy,” adds Płonka.
Partners: R.Power and OX2
“The agreement with Amazon is one of the largest solar energy purchase contracts in Poland and demonstrates that our strategy is working. We aim to be a leader in the region’s energy transition,” said Rafał Hajduk, Chief Commercial Officer at R.Power Renewables.
“Together with Amazon, we are strongly committed to accelerating the energy transition. Thanks to our experience and global portfolio, we provide reliable, clean energy and support the decarbonization of business operations across Europe,” said Mehmet Energin, Chief Investment Officer at OX2.
Amazon invests in sustainable development in Poland
Renewable energy is just one element of Amazon’s broader sustainability program in Poland. The company has:
- Supported Kampinos National Park with PLN 4.3 million through the Right Now Climate Fund, used in part to restore 500 hectares of wetlands in the Kampinos Forest.
- Launched the Climate Pledge Friendly program in 2024, helping Amazon.pl customers choose products with verified sustainability certifications.
- Promoted product longevity through the “Repair It Yourself” store, encouraging the refurbishment of clothing and household appliances.
Toward a net-zero future
With these new renewable energy purchase agreements, Amazon is significantly increasing the amount of green energy available in the Polish grid, supporting energy system stability and the country’s economic transition. This represents another step toward the company’s global goal of net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2040.
