Kiev is set to construct multiple solar power plants aimed at guaranteeing a continuous power supply to the city’s hospitals. Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev, disclosed these proposed investments through his Telegram channel.

The implementation of photovoltaic installations is a direct response to the vulnerability of Kiev’s crucial infrastructure due to potential Russian shelling. This initiative aims to establish a continuous power supply to three vital medical facilities within the city, including a teaching hospital, a maternity hospital, and a perinatal center.

These solar systems are also designed to incorporate energy storage capabilities, addressing the concern of power outages and contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions. The project’s funding originates from GIZ grants, with a total investment of EUR 500,000.

RES and Ukraine’s energy security

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasizes the significance of renewable energy sources in ensuring the country’s energy security, particularly in the context of an ongoing armed conflict. Integrating renewable energy systems with energy storage offers a safeguard against disruptions during such challenging situations.

In a recent development, a 114 MW wind farm was established merely a hundred kilometers away from the conflict zone. For more details on this project, you can find additional information in the article titled “One Hundred Kilometers from the Front: Ukraine’s New Wind Farm” that was shared earlier.
