Tesla will supply its energy storage to a 50MW Belgian project

Eneco, a Dutch energy company, recently unveiled its plans to create a 50 megawatt (MW) energy storage initiative in Belgium, along with a substantial capacity of 200 megawatt-hours (MWh). This project, known as Ville-sur-Haine, will be composed of 53 battery units called Megapacks, produced by Tesla.

Through this endeavor, Eneco is advancing further toward establishing a completely sustainable energy system within Belgium. Additionally, this initiative aligns with their One Planet plan, which is designed to attain complete climate neutrality by the year 2035.

Eneco continues its series of environmentally conscious investments in Belgium. Boasting an impressive array of 128 onshore wind turbines, the nation’s two most sizable offshore wind farms, and nearly 400,000 solar panels, Eneco holds a prominent position as a key contributor to Belgium’s renewable energy landscape.

Tine Deheegher, the manager overseeing renewable energy solutions at Eneco, emphasizes that this venture marks only the initial stages of the company’s endeavors. As indicated, we can anticipate the development of projects in the coming years that will collectively yield a capacity spanning several hundred megawatts. These projects won’t be limited solely to Belgium but will also extend to other countries, broadening Eneco’s sphere of activity.

The upcoming energy storage facilities in Belgium are intended to provide vital support to the grid, enhancing its flexibility. This strategic move addresses the increasing prominence of renewable energy sources, a phenomenon that poses challenges to energy infrastructure in various nations.

The anticipated launch of the Belgian project is set for the year 2024. It’s worth noting that Eneco operates under the control of Mitsubishi Corp.
