On August 8th, the Council of Ministers officially approved a resolution pertaining to the adoption of the government program titled “Aid for the Energy-Intensive Industry in Relation to Natural Gas and Electricity Prices for 2023.”

The government’s initiative involves extending assistance to companies within the industrial sector that are burdened by extra expenses resulting from the surge in electricity and natural gas prices. The financial support is projected to exceed PLN 5.5 billion.

Assumptions of the assistance program

The aid program will be accessible to companies that fulfill specific criteria. These include demonstrating energy intensity, whereby the costs of electricity and natural gas constitute at least 3% of their production value in 2021.

The assistance will be provided up to defined thresholds: up to 50% of eligible costs, limited to EUR 4 million, and up to 80% of eligible costs, capped at EUR 40 million, if the conditions for heightened aid are met.

The next version of the program

The government previously executed a comparable assistance program for enterprises concerning expenses in 2022. During that period, 195 companies were recipients of aid totaling over PLN 2.3 billion. The sectors primarily benefiting from this support were the metal, metallurgical, chemical, and ceramic industries.

Approximately 3,000 companies are now eligible to benefit from the latest aid program. The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management will oversee the administration of the program.
