Norway Confirms Its Leadership in E-Mobility, Reaching an Impressive 90% Electric Vehicle Sales in 2024. According to an OFV report, of the 130,000 new cars sold last year, only 986 had traditional combustion engines.

Electric Domination on the Roads

Electric cars dominated the market, accounting for 90% of sales, while hybrids made up 8%. Tesla retained its position as the leader, responsible for one in five electric cars sold. The top five also included Volvo, Volkswagen, Toyota, and Skoda. Chinese brands like BYD, MG, and XPeng, though less popular, are gradually gaining recognition.

According to Oyvind Solberg Thorsen, Managing Director of OFV, the key factors driving market growth include:

Preferential tax conditions – no VAT on electric vehicles priced up to 500,000 NOK.
Rising fuel and maintenance costs for combustion vehicles.
Affordable electricity – in Norway, driving 100 km in an electric car costs about 6 NOK (~$0.55).

Extensive Charging Network

Norway boasts the most extensive charging network in the world. By the end of 2024, the number of fast chargers reached nearly 10,000, with many offering 150 kW power. Private operators are rapidly expanding infrastructure to meet growing demand.
