EDP Signs 20-Year PPA with Amazon for Clean Energy Supply in Japan

Through its subsidiary EDP Renewables APAC, EDP has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Amazon for the supply of clean energy in Japan. As part of this agreement, EDP will build a new 44 MWp (35 MWac) solar farm in Fukushima.

Solar Farm Details

The farm will consist of 63,000 solar panels and generate more than 48 GWh of energy annually, reducing CO2 emissions by over 20,000 tons. The project supports Japan’s decarbonization goals, with photovoltaics currently being the second most used energy source in the country.

Vera Pinto Pereira, EDP’s board member, highlights the significance of this partnership for the global energy transition: “The agreement with Amazon not only strengthens our commitment to providing renewable energy solutions but also drives innovation and enhances business stability.”

Another EDP and Amazon Agreement in the Asia-Pacific Region

This is the second PPA agreement between EDP and Amazon in the Asia-Pacific region. The first was signed in 2021 in Singapore, confirming both companies’ commitment to the development of renewable energy sources and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
