Meta will power a data center in Idaho with a 200 MW photovoltaic farm
RPlus Energies has recently revealed the completion of a significant milestone – the signing of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Idaho Power, a prominent energy operator. This agreement marks a pivotal step towards the establishment of the Pleasant Valley Solar PV farm, a robust 200 MW solar facility situated in Ada County, Idaho.
The negotiation process for the energy purchase contract for the Pleasant Valley Solar PV farm involved three key participants: rPlus Energies, Idaho Power, and Meta. This collaboration ensures that the generated electricity from the Pleasant Valley Solar project will not only supply Meta’s media platforms but also contribute to the broader power grid and serve various recipients across Idaho.
To carry out the construction of the solar farm, Sundt Renewables was chosen as the contractor. Notably, Sundt Renewables had previously collaborated with rPlus Energies on a sizable 280 MW PV project located in neighboring Utah.
rPlus Energies emphasizes its commitment to involving local contractors in the construction phase of the Pleasant Valley project, thereby generating economic benefits for the entire region. Approximately 220 jobs are anticipated to be created during the construction period. Construction is scheduled to commence later this year.
The establishment of the Pleasant Valley Solar PV farm will play a pivotal role in elevating the proportion of renewable energy within Idaho Power’s energy mix. This aligns with Idaho Power’s overarching objective to achieve a complete transition to clean energy by 2045.
Furthermore, Meta, the parent company of prominent platforms like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook, is also strongly supporting renewable energy. As the largest commercial purchaser of PV power in the United States, Meta is resolute in its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
