Italy is betting on agrophotovoltaics. A farm with a capacity of 170 MW is being built

Enel Green Power is currently working on assembling the largest agrophotovoltaic farm in Italy, located in Tarquinia. This ambitious project is set to be completed within a short span of 13 months. The agrophotovoltaic farm aims to integrate solar panels with agricultural activities, showcasing the potential of combining renewable energy generation with farming practices. The project signifies a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions and demonstrates the commitment to innovative approaches in the energy sector.

The upcoming agrophotovoltaic farm near Tarquinia, Italy, is set to feature dual-sided photovoltaic modules mounted on trackers, creating a space for olive trees to grow in between. This innovative approach combines solar energy generation with agricultural activities. The construction of this project is estimated to involve around 330 workers, contributing to both renewable energy and local employment. The development aligns with the €1.5 billion program initiated by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy to promote agrophotovoltaics across the country. Enel Green Power, the contractor for this project, has demonstrated its commitment to agrophotovoltaics through a research project in 2021 involving pilot projects in Spain, Greece, and Italy. This 170 MW farm is poised to be a significant advancement in sustainable energy solutions.
