PGE Selects Contractor for the Gryfino Energy Storage Project
PGE Energia Odnawialna has concluded a tender for the construction of the Gryfino Energy Storage Facility, which will become the largest battery installation in Poland. The project, with a capacity of up to 400 MW and a minimum energy volume of 800 MWh, will be developed in Nowy Czarnowo. The total investment value exceeds PLN 1.14 billion (gross).
The turnkey EPC contract will be executed by a consortium of Polish companies: SPEC BAU Polska and EL Professional.
Technology from a global leader
The battery technology supplier for the project is Fluence Energy, a U.S.‑based global leader in energy storage solutions. The facility will utilize the advanced, modular SmartStack™ platform, known for its high energy density and integrated safety systems.
The contractor was selected through an open tender procedure, in which three bids were submitted. The winning consortium will be responsible for the entire investment process—from design and equipment delivery, through installation and commissioning, to a 36‑month warranty service period.
A strategic location and long‑term role
The new investment will be built adjacent to other key PGE assets in the region, including a modern 1,366 MW combined‑cycle gas power plant. PGE CEO Dariusz Lubera emphasized that the Gryfino municipality is becoming one of the most important points on Poland’s energy map.
Further developments are also underway in the area, including a new 600 MW gas unit and a gas‑fired district heating plant. The Gryfino Energy Storage Facility constitutes another crucial link—after Żarnowiec—in building a stable, storage‑based national power system.
Financing and schedule
The project has already secured a 17‑year capacity market contract. The adopted schedule includes:
- August 2025 – announcement of the EPC tender.
- April 2026 – contractor selection and preparation of design works.
- End of 2028 – planned start of commercial operation.
Thanks to its massive capacity, the energy storage facility will support the national power system during peak demand periods and facilitate effective integration of renewable energy sources. Oversight of the entire investment process is provided by PGE Energia Odnawialna.
