Grenergy has chosen Ingeteam as its technology partner for constructing the largest battery energy storage facility globally. In this collaboration, Ingeteam will supply the necessary inverters and transformer stations for the project.

Oasis de Atacama project

Grenergy’s Oasis de Atacama project, situated in the Chilean Atacama Desert, will integrate solar energy production through photovoltaic (PV) systems with energy storage in a robust battery setup. Upon the project’s completion, an impressive power output of 1 gigawatt (GW) and a record-breaking storage capacity of 4.1 gigawatt-hours (GWh) will be achieved. This storage capacity is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of approximately 145,700 households in Chile and is expected to contribute significantly to reducing annual CO2 emissions by over 147,000 tons. The various phases of the project are anticipated to be finalized over the next 36 months.

What does the contract cover?

The agreement between the two companies encompasses the provision of inverters, which will be seamlessly integrated with transformer stations and delivered as an all-inclusive turnkey solution. In addition to this, Ingeteam will supply energy management systems.

José Antonio Unanue, the business director for battery energy storage at Ingeteam, highlights that Chile is actively incorporating energy storage as a pivotal component in optimizing the utilization of renewable energy. Ingeteam is actively contributing to the national initiative to decarbonize the economy by offering its cutting-edge technology.
